After recently moving into my new home and with rising energy costs, I thought long and hard regarding ways to save on my heating costs this year. While most information you find regarding saving on heating costs focuses on sealing drafts and insulating your home, which is very important, often what is overlooked is a supplemental source of heat. My solution? A fireplace! There are several different types of fireplaces to choose from and it’s important to chose the right one. While wood burning fireplaces and stoves are still available. The cost of firewood has steadily increased over the years and many feel it is no longer cost effective to burn wood as a source of heat. There are many different fireplace and stove technologies available today which are much more cost effective. A popular choice among those with a gas utility servicing their homes would be gas fireplaces or gas stoves. However, there is hope for those of you without a major gas utility! Electric Fireplaces are becoming more popular and have advanced greatly over the years in terms of efficiency.
